hiking in lantau
I've had a couple of friends visiting this past weekend. Two of them staying with me.
Last Friday, after a night of hard-drinking, we staggered home, half guiding, half chasing after our very drunk and belligerent friend. But not before spending a good fifteen minutes in the middle of the street, persuading her that another girlfriend, who was high but not quite drunk, didn't need her help getting home. Miraculously, drunk friend was the first to wake three hours later, bright-eyed and bushy tailed. She went off to breakfast with a friend, leaving her other two room-mates, one hungover, the other sleep-deprived, cursing the unfairness of it all. I should mention that I had forced her a few hours earlier to take two multi-vitamins and a glass of water before bed. It's a miracle cure for hangovers that I now fervently swear by. Hungover friend had one multi-vitamin in the morning and felt fine again after another two hours' sleep.
We had planned our Lantau hike weeks ago and decided to stick with it regardless of our physical state. But we picked a less strenuous trail than the Lantau Peak we had originally planned. Our hike from Discovery Bay to Mui Wo took us two and a half hours, with numerous photography stops. This butterfly was one of the first little gems we came by.
A few minutes later, we came upon this wreck beside the trail.
Clearly, it'd been left there, forgotten for many years. It was in a desperate state of corrosion but I couldn't resist clambering into it for a photo. Luckily, the floor boards didn't collapse under my weight.
We rewarded ourselves at the end of the hike with some Turkish treats at the restaurant by the pier. As the light faded, flocks of Great Egrets were seen making their way across the water. It was a great way to end the day.
