oh! yesterday I saw an amazing sight outside my office window. It was a bird of prey with its prey in its talons! It was circling in the air and each time it swooped past our window, I noticed feathers gently fall. A closer look at the bird revealed that it was tearing its meal in mid flight! I thought that was pretty majestic. Made me think of the t-shirt with the eagle mandala and the accompanying poem which he gave me when I first moved to Hong Kong.
Anyway, I think it is cool that we have our very own "live" Discovery channel right outside our office window.

I've got his Valentine's day gift. Only, I can't call it a Valentine's day gift because we're not valentine sweethearts. Ok, call it a CNY gift then. It is a second-hand office chair from my old office. He's been wanting to get a good chair for a long time because the one he has now doesn't support the back. Will need to pop by the office on V-Day to pick it up and since he hasn't responded to my invitation, I'll just have to drop if off at his place later that day without much ado. sigh! and without hope too....

One week more before I get home for the last time before Christmas. Managed to get the 4pm flight out of Hong Kong on Friday. I want to see him when I'm back but I'm not holding out much hope of that happening. Doesn't feel like he wants to see me. He doesn't show any interest in my return at all...no questions, nada. wishful thinking that he would....pathetic

two days before my mom gets here. i'm anxious. emotions still in turmoil and I'm not sure I'm ready to handle her. I blogged this earlier but opened another site on this same window and closed it without realising what had happened. don't feel like repeating myself.

Noticed that I hardly read his email when it comes now. Received one today (I think) and read it just once and very quickly. Used to read each email at least 4 times before!!! Dunno if it's because I'm letting go or just despairing. Every email seems to contain a reminder that his focus is on his Sunshine and he doesn't want to start a new relationship (referring to me, of course). There are those who will argue that he was already in a relationship with me so it is a bit irresponsible to say he doesn't want to "start a new relationship". But that's beside the point, isn't it? The point being, he doesn't want to be in a relationship with me ie. not a steady type relationship with some constancy. So, getting upset with his "irresponsible" perspective is pointless. And he did make it a point all this time we were "seeing" each other to absolve himself of being in a relationship with me. Made that very clear on many occasions. Oh, what's the use! I'm miserable whatever the case. I love him. I miss him. I cannot let him know. I let him go....

Hmmm...my blogging is starting to get irregular. Just realised it's after midnight so this blog is going to register as tomorrow's. Anyhow....the temperature hasn't gone up as previously predicted. It is still cold but at mid-teens so not as bad as start of last week.

Office was renovated over the weekend. We took over the unit next to ours and knocked down the partition wall this past weekend. I now have a nice corner with a lot more private space. I need that especially when I handle confidential matters. But it also means feeling more isolated as I'm occupying the space in the new unit with Bob (who is still based in Singapore), while the rest of the team (whenever they're around and that's not often) are occupying the other side.

Tim and Simon signed my guestbook today. It was good to get Simon's supportive note, knowing that he's cared enough to check my web page to find out how I'm doing. Unfortunately, suspending my web page has caused some concern among caring friends who are not in the know about my current anguish. I'm torn about whether to resume my web page. On the one hand, I don't want to cause any more anxiety amongst my friends by continuing this web silence. On the other hand, if I resume publishing and they read all that's going on, they may be even more concerned and I don't know that my emotional sampan can take a sudden wave of emotional support. That might prove even more challenging. Furthermore, the temptation to cut him off is growing increasingly stronger and it is not confined to just him. I am fighting hard to resist the urge to run and hide from everyone, including myself.

bad headache today. really should stop crying. spoke to him today. couldn't get any work done. too distracted. just had to hear his voice. weird conversation. but i know he is happy this way. i should have guessed it would come to this when he said the space was good for him because he could love me from a distance. what was i expecting??? that he would miss me and love me because i felt that way for him???? i'm tired. off to bed now.

Tonight was Sam's Advanced graduation. I cancelled a dinner appointment with Anita and Emil's family to be at his graduation but all I could think of was how much I wanted to be with Tim at the graduation in Singapore. I feel so far away from him. The distance has become so great that conversation is awkward. How did it get this way? I had never felt so close to anyone as I had with him and yet, I've never felt so alienated from someone that I loved the way I have him. I missed him more tonight than I've done this past week. I thought I was getting used to the idea of gradually letting go. Seeing Twiggy (co-trainer at our own Advanced) tonight, hearing her voice, just brought back a rush of memories that I was not prepared to handle. Felt so isolated from the crowd, my loneliness more intense than ever, tears streaming down my face as I sat in a dark corner, eyes turned to the crowd but seeing nothing. How did I get here? I love him, I let him go. Am I being noble? Will there be joy beyond this endless abyss of pain? solitude? There must be. I must believe in it. Because it would drive me mad to think I cry in vain. I am not a saint. My tears seem endless. Just when I think I'm done, another tide takes me. The pain in my heart is more than I can bear. I want to reach out to him but I feel like I'm crying out behind a sound proof glass and he is heedless of my cries. I love him and therefore, I let him go. There is no other way. I pray that I will find peace in the quiet of the night...

Went to Insomnia at Lan Kwai Fong again last night with Peter, an Aussie colleague. He was on the lookout for cute guys for me because of a comment I'd made earlier that evening. So, when a cute guy was trying to gain my attention on the dance floor and I took no notice of him, Peter kept having a go at me for letting the guy slip through my fingers. Well, I didn't have my glasses on (slipped it into Pete's pocket) so I couldn't be sure if the guy was good looking. Yeah, that's a lousy excuse. I'm just not ready to move on yet, I'm sure is the real reason. Had quite a lot to drink and still couldn't keep halfway up with Peter. Took a taxi home and was completely out of it by the time I got back. Drank a glass of water before going to bed but it didn't prevent a hangover this morning. Had to pop in two Moltrins at noon when I got out of bed!

Got an email from Tim this morning. That was nice. Was sharing about his staffing experience and how some of the women made him think of me. He didn't mean it in an affectionate way but it made me smile all the same.

Now, I'm tired after a lazy day at the gym, and then steam room. Had late lunch and early dinner. Now I can have steamed dishes, thanks to my new rice cooker. Feels healthier. Must really do something about all this excess weight I'm carrying. argh! Off to bed now.

Collected my tickets today. Called the Hong Kong Krisflyer office and begged them to help out but the customer service person was unfriendly and rude. She was very abrupt and said she remembered me from the day before and the supervisor was already handling the case. I could only wait. Decided not to leave my tickets to fate. Called the Krisflyer Singapore office and begged the customer service officer. She came through for me! What an angel!

Sam went in for Advanced, Hong Kong yesterday. As it happens, Tim also went to staff Advanced, Singapore yesterday. Sam was in a crisis today and I found myself in a spot. There was a crisis at work and he was expected to handle it. Unfortunately, we have an agreement with a client to provide 24x7 implementation support and Sam is the only guy who can provide that. Which means his time is not his own. That sucks! Poor guy called me this morning to share with me about the situation. He sounded like he was almost in tears. He wanted so much to do the course but is also very committed to his work. Fortunately for him, his boss finally let up. But I don't know if it will last through the course since his boss is going skiing starting this weekend. I just noticed myself feeling bad, guilty...like it was my fault for getting him into this spot since I'm the one who enrolled him into the course. I know he's responsible for his own choices but it doesn't stop me from feeling this way.

Just bought a rice cooker tonight. My sis, Angie's colleague was in Hong Kong this week and came to my place for dinner tonight. Mentioned to my mom in a chat that I put in a bit too little water and she insisted on offering me a tip to cook rice in a rice cooker. Tip : put your palm flat on the base of the pot and fill water up to the knuckles where your fingers meets your palm. The same tip that she passed on to my eldest sis, Chris, who passed it on to me when I learnt to cook 20 years ago!!!! I know she's trying to be helpful but I think she's trying too hard to the point of insulting my intelligence. *sigh*

AAAAAHHHHH!!! I FORGOT TO GET MY TICKETS ISSUED!! Now I don't have a flight back for Chinese New Year!!! I'm back on the waitlist again. And buying a ticket is quite out of the question. Agents hoarded the seats 3 weeks ago when I tried to buy a ticket (was told all flights were fully booked running up to CNY) and last week, they released the seats at a 25% premium!! AAHHHH! I can only hope that someone cancels or forgets to ticket as well (which is a terrible "hope", I know).

Chatted on msn with him last night (or rather, early this morning) to discuss the logo that he is helping me with. Ended up chatting about singing at church. Just as I'd said before, he made it so big, such a wonder with his spontaneous and excited questions about how I felt, etc..and I couldn't help saying "I love you" (which I immediately retracted with "oops!"). What an ass (I mean me, of course)....

went to check out some apartments in Central. Can't believe just how tiny a space people can live in!!! 330 sq feet for a whole apartment. That's a 1 bedroom aparment with a kitchen (that is slightly bigger than the size of a Whirlpool double door refrigerator) and the entire apartment is just a little over half the size of my current suite! really cramped. Feels like living in a closet. I know that sounds like a mean thing to say but I was actually considering to move to Central. Since I'm a little claustrophobic this option is definitely out.

He sent me a book and music CD titled "I hope you dance". That's the title of our song. I call it our song because the first time we heard it play on the radio in my car, we both were in awe of the lyrics. It bore a powerful message to live life fully and deeply and never forget to be in wonder at the beauty of life (as I blogged two days ago). The CD contains the track of the same title by country singer, Lee Ann Womack. Oh, I can't stand him. He does this sort of thing that makes my heart soar. But to him, these are nothing more than tokens of friendship.

Winter has returned to Hong Kong. Last week, the new denim coat I bought was too warm. Today, it is just not warm enough! Temperature today was as low as 10 degrees C. I'll bring out that heavy wool coat tomorrow so I don't freeze my butt off. By Friday, the temperature will be back to as high as the 20s again. Crazy!

Second week singing with the church choir and the music leader asked me to sing a solo!!! WOW!!! high point of my week! It was a beautiful prayerful piece. I was so nervous until I reminded myself that I'm offering my talent back to God. Received a lot of compliments so that was really nice. I finally feel like I have a family here in Hong Kong. I'm glad I made a commitment to this church and its choir even though it isn't a Catholic church. Maybe now, I'll feel less like a piece of driftwood. The Community Church of Hong Kong (CCHK), it is called, and we celebrated our 5th year in Hong Kong. Happy birthday, happy birthday, happy birthday to CCHK! Yeah! We had a big cake and all the little ones couldn't wait to blow out the 5 candles :-D

I wanted so much to call him and share with him my excitement about singing solo at church today. Felt like my heart was bursting but I held back because I am afraid of this "wanting", even "needing" to share it with him. It is beautiful to share joy with him. Somehow, it just becomes bigger when I do. But I'm afraid that he may see this as a "weakness" of needing to look outside to seek evidence of who I am, what I am and what I'm feeling. What do I know what he would think. It keeps shifting......Ok, stop thinking! I don't want to cry. It is a happy occasion and yet I feel sadness in my joy. Guess this is what they refer to as "bittersweet". :-|

Met DL for lunch today. I'm amazed how comfortable I was with him though I only know him through my sister who works with him. He is here for a business trip. He spoke so highly of Angie. I am very happy for her. After a late dim sum lunch, we took a walk in Hong Kong Park. Didn't realise that such a beautiful park was just a short walk from my office. There is an Aviary with a fantastic collection of birds just flying around. A mini birdpark in the middle of the city. Amazing!

Going to bed now. Very tired. eyes shutting. Also trying to resist the urge to call him.....argh!

Discovered something today...I cannot refer to files in my Geocites web page from here (or anywhere outside Geocities) :o which means that the links in my earlier blogs to photos don't work! :-( Gotta find another way to do this....

And speaking of my Geocities web page, I noticed a strange thing. I've suspended the web page by replacing the home page and removing links to other pages on the site since Jan 15. And yet I've received 26 hits since, including visits to my poetry pages. inexplicable.

I miss him. how pathetic! After being told (in an email a few days ago) that he didn't feel like talking to me or anyone!
Got a little gem of wisdom in an email..."No man (or woman) is worth your tears. And the one who is, won't make you cry". So, to cry over a love lost or not to cry? I guess what it means to me is to cry for the pain of the loss but do not cry from wanting him back.

Actually, he has started to write again. Because I asked him to help me with a logo I created for an upcoming event. My sad little way of keeping in touch without being too personal or attached. And he sent me the lyrics to a song we both enjoy. Thought it would bring tears but it didn't. I must be over it or maybe I'm just numb. The song is an encouragement, no, an appeal to live life fully and deeply...
I Hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance, I hope you dance
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Livin' might mean takin chances but they're worth takin'
Lovin' might be a mistake but its worth makin'
Don¹t let some hell-bent heart leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out, reconsider
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance, I hope you dance
Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along.
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder
Where those years have gone.
I hope you dance, I hope you dance
I hope you dance.

feeling peacefully numb today. no tears. He's staffing the coming Advanced next week. I must not upset his equilibrium. Gotta keep things impersonal but not too distant so he doesn't react to it and become ineffective in Advanced. Don't want to be the cause of his being ineffective again after what happened this week at the ALI.

aaahhhhh...just had a nice, Japanese hot spa experience with John Denver's "The flower that shattered the stone" album in the background. Used the Japanese hot spa bubble bath which I originally bought to give him a bath treat. Still wanna give it to him but I'm so torn inside. Don't wanna risk rejection. He didn't reply to my email of almost a week ago, to invite him to a Valentine's Day treat. Was actually thinking of pampering him to a home cooked meal, bubble bath and massage. Should one always risk being hurt to find love? I think one should not risk hurt if that is a clear and obvious outcome of a pursuit. That would be plain stupidity! But maybe I'm just saying that because I'm jaded (wonder why they call that state of mind "jaded"....obviously, someone didn't like the look of jade...rambling). I'll probably feel differently again a few weeks down the track when my gung ho Butterfly breaks free once more!

Oh, I wonder what's happened to my archives. Looks like I've got only as far back as Jan 13, while my first blog was Jan 3. :( Nobody likes me. Not even blogger...boo-hoo-hoo....poor me............

Thursday, January 17, 2002

I've been gripped by the boo-hoo bug. On the phone with him this afternoon, walking through the service suite lobby as a guest was crooning "Sometimes when we touch". That reminded me of a very emotional email he wrote me in June while I was on a business trip in Sydney..."I wanna hold you 'til the fear in me subsides"....boo hoo hoo!

I have to blog this so that I never ever forget it : I WILL NEVER BE VULNERABLE AGAIN. I WILL NEVER BE VULNERABLE AGAIN. I WILL NEVER BE VULNERABLE AGAIN...For a while, I thought that letting myself be vulnerable, being gentle, etc, will bring me the peace that I so seek with him. But I've never been MORE WRONG! Being vulnerable is not just an open invitation for someone to turn nasty and hurt you, you're actually begging to be hurt. Since I've been back from Singapore, I've been letting myself go, allowing myself to be vulnerable to him. When he didn't email, instead of getting upset about it, I called him on the phone. And invited him to chat on msn. But it seems that being that way has somehow caused him to withdraw and become distant. He selectively responds to my email. He avoids logging on to msn, and has become testy with me on the phone. I am trembling violently now. My heart was racing through our short conversation. My eyes are full. I do not want to put myself through this again. It is plain stupidity! To think I fell for that "when you are gentle, I can experience myself as powerful" line. Powerful enough to shake you off, he should have said!

ARGH!!! how did this pair of dumpy shoes get on my feet this morning?!!!

I don't have any memory of putting them on and yet here they are, on my feet! These are my supermarket shoes! I think my brain fell asleep for a few seconds while I was slipping them on.

Fog descended this morning in Tin Shui Wai (that's where I live). Thought it was smoke, at first but noticed just how still it sat on the ground for about 10 storeys high.

Visibility was low, just over 50m in some places. Still, temperature is holding at above 20 degrees. Sky in the city is clear today compared to two days ago. On Tuesday, I thought I was in San Francisco, the fog city.

Wednesday, January 16, 2002

just had a surprise bout of the boo-hoo-hoos. Suddenly hit me from out of the blue while I was re-doing the jump page to my website. And I couldn't seem to stop myself either. Managed to continue chatting with my mom while bawling like a baby. Don't really know what that's about. Or maybe I just don't want to see it. Clearly, it is about him. But not just. And what exactly is it about him is also something I don't want to look at right now. I feel a need to curl up and hide. Or to run away and do something drastic or dangerous.

This weather is crazy. The effects of global warming is very obvious here. It is the midst of winter and temperatures should be as low as 10 degrees celsius. Instead, I'm fading in temperatures up to 27 degrees. Very uncomfortable when I'm in warm summer clothes (not even winterwear!). Sky has finally cleared but street lamp is still on. Tomorrow, I come in cool summer clothes.

ok. so no need to be so secretive about who that "someone" is that's selling the Christmas gift. anyway, I could see this coming a mile away. Actually, on Christmas eve when he opened the gift and immediately told me about the modern version of the gift I'd given him and how much he wanted to get one himself. My fault for buying an antique....

City is shrouded in fog. Woke up this morning and found myself in the clouds! Like some mystical tower in Middle Earth? :-)

Check out these sites for dream interpretation.
1. Dream Interpretation
2. Dream Central
Apparently, all my dreams surrounding death were about significant changes in my life. Either I am seeking these changes or experiencing them. Well, considering that I'd just come back from my first home trip since moving to Hong Kong, the obvious interpretation of my dreams would be the "experiencing" of these huge changes - leaving family, friends and all things familiar. I'm starting to ask myself why am I here? Not the existential "here" (although, that has crossed my mind a fair bit lately) but the geographical "here". Well, I know that a large part had to do with bringing about a change of scene so I can forget about him, as well as to give him the space that he so desired. The irony is that the separation and un-familiarity of this place is making me miss him EVEN more. And it hurts me like hell (tho I have to hide it from him) to know that he prefers to love me from a distance.

someone is selling the gift I gave him last Christmas to buy something better. I guess I should be happy about it and I am. But at the same time, I feel a tinge of sadness (ok, maybe more than a tinge). I guess I'm a sentimental fool and would never sell a present given to me by someone special. Well obviously, there's a presumption that I'm someone special to him in the first place. Hah! Well anyway, a gift once given is his to do as he please even if to sell it. I just have to accept it.

just noticed a dearth of cats in Hong Kong while chatting with Albert. Talking about keeping a pet as a means to safely demonstrate my affection for a receptive creature. One of us (not me) was speculating that the cats have all been eaten!!! or worse, fed to the dogs to fatten them for meat! teeheehee!!! Explains why there is no stray dog too :p

Removed my web page today. It is still there but the contents have been removed, leaving just one line and link to neverever.com. stupid joke. Well, I'm feeling stupid so that's appropriate.

sun was blighted by great mists (i think when it gets this thick, it's called a fog) since yesterday afternoon. Street lamps came on about 3pm and have been on since. even now. A reflection of the mood I'm in. Didn't know I could affect the weather. wow! do I feel POWERFUL!!! HAHAHAHA!

Yesterday's loving thought...
"when I loved myself enough, during times of confusion, grief or struggle, I remember that even these are a part of me and I let myself love them."...finding this very hard to do right now...
Didn't read a loving thought today. Don't feel very loving today. Feel like laughing out loud. oh, already did that. well, HAHAHAHAHAH!

Feel like a hurricane is ravaging through my space. Not sure which way is up. Spinning round and round, tumbling, turning, upside down..I think that's a song. Or at least, it should be one :D HAHAHAHAH! (louder now)

Just a random observation (nothing to do with anything in my life)...
Ever noticed when you're in love and on the receiving end of another's fervent ardour, how as soon as you openly reciprocate that person's affectìon, the affection suddenly diminshes? why is that? There seems to be a reverse correlation at work here. It is no wonder that people are so reluctant to let on how they really feel about another. And no wonder the person who appears cool-headed is the one considered to have the upper hand in the relationship. Not always true, but sad when it is, isn't it?

Just took another colour personality test (colourquiz). Results are amazingly similar to the Colorgenics one I took two days ago! Eeeeks! I swear I wasn't memorising my selection pattern! See for yourself...
Your Existing Situation
Active, but feels that insufficient progress or reward is being made for the effort exerted.

Your Stress Sources
Has an unsatisfied need to ally herself with others whose standards are as high as her own, and to stand out from the herd. This desire for preeminence isolates her and inhibits her readiness to give herself freely. While she wants to surrender and let herself go, she regards this as a weakness which must be resisted. This self-restraint, she feels, will lift her above the rank and file and ensure recognition as a unique and distinctive personality.

Your Restrained Characteristics
Has high emotional demands and is willing to involve herself in a close relationship, but not with any great depth of feeling. (hmm...this is where it differs from previous test. maybe that's the space I'm in right now)
Circumstances are forcing her to compromise, to restrain her demands and hopes, and to forgo for the time being some of the things she wants.

Your Desired Objective
Over-imaginative and given to fantasy or day-dreaming. Longs for interesting and exciting things to happen and wants to be admired for her charm.

Your Actual Problem
Feels insufficiently valued in her existing situation, and is seeking different conditions in which she will have greater opportunity of demonstrating her worth.

was beginning to feel peaceful about where I'm at with Tim. Not forcing it to look anyway. Enjoying the moment, expecting nothing. All the times before, when I was struggling to take control of my life, my broken heart, I wanted to take extreme and decisive action...cut off communication. That struggle for control was increasing pain for all parties. But Albert asked me something tonight which rocks my tiny little boat..."are you doing nothing so as to avoid pain?" So, am I seeking peace as a disguise for avoiding pain? Why does it have to be so complicated? I saw that my struggles were only inflicting more pain. So yes, any change must be to stop inflicting pain on myself and on him. Is that bad or wrong? I don't have the answers. I just want peace. I just want it to be okay to love that someone even if loving is still painful. Withdrawing now....crying myself to sleep.

[1/13/2002 8:49:54 AM | Karen Teoh]
realised why i was so upset last night. felt like i wanted Al's approval because he has always been here for me, a confidante, a pillar of support. felt like i failed him because i was not demonstrating any "progress" in my relationship with Tim. But I've re-read yesterday's loving thought again ("When I loved myself enough, I learn to say no when I want to and yes when I want to") and I say YES, there is progress to ME. That should mean something to myself.

Today's reminder
"When I loved myself enough, I began to see that desires of the heart do come, and I grow more patient and calm."

went to church early today to learn the songs. I am now a member of the music team at Community Church of Hong Kong!! Yippeee! Today, we celebrated the baptism of little Lauren whose family came from Taiwan. A powerful message from that... I am a child of God. Formed by His hands, nurtured by His love. In me (as in each of us), I hold the hope of salvation...and more that I don't quite remember. Beautiful. Another question answered..."Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me". Oh, and the name of the building is Central Plaza (see 1/03 blog).

Very warm day today. Felt like summer! Took advantage of the weather and sat in the park this afternoon to read. Brought the groundsheet that Tim packed for me, a bottle of lemon squeezed water, an apple, and CDplayer. Good thing I kept the light, long sleeved t-shirt from this morning so I was not too badly bitten by the tiny flying insects. Sunset was splendid. Stopped reading just to enjoy the orange tinged cotton puffs in the sky. Looked like someone made little cotton balls of even size and evenly distributed them across a wide, clear, blue sky. Too bad I didn't have my camera with me.

Oh, and I've put up the photos from Etienne's visit. check them out!

When I loved myself enough...I learnt to say no when I want to and yes when I want to.
Something I got from the very inspirational booklet that Albert gave me for Christmas. Titled "When I loved myself enough" (of course!) by Kim McMillen.

Tim and my dad met for the first time...in my dreams. That was really nice. It is also a pleasant change from the nightmares I was waking up to the first few mornings I got back to Hong Kong.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that this week, I got my employment pass from Hong Kong immigration. Congratulations! I'm no longer an illegal alien in Hong Kong. Next, to make my Hong Kong ID card. Maybe this will give me a sense of belonging. Hah!

This morning at the supermart, I decided to check out these tiny silvery fish that I've been giving a miss all this time. Turns out they are the "Shisamo" fish that are sold in Japanese restaurants, pregnant full of yummy roe. Bought a parnet of 20 and fried 5 of them to go with my leftover-from-last-night's-dinner spicy fried rice. Now my whole room stinks of fried fish. But I'm getting accustomed to the food aromas that my cooking therapy creates. Yes, cooking can be quite therapeautic. Takes your mind off everything else that occupies your mind for the one hour that you're busy cutting, washing, frying, tasting.

I should get offline now and do some real work. Planning the kick-off sales rally for the North Asia team scheduled for end of this month. Need to come up with a theme around Action and Process. Got online with Tim last night and he enthusiastically plunged into theme creation (thank you, Tim!). Between us, we came up with : "Precision in Action", "Process in Action", "Exact Action" and other less appropriate ones. How about "Lethal Action", or "PROaction - process in action". Gotta have something for my report on Monday. ARGH!

By the way, I think my blog fits really nicely in my web page. wouldn't you agree? Don't send fan mail. Just send money :-)

Inspired by Hwee Ling's blog, I tried out the Colorgenics Personality Test myself. As much as I hate to admit it, the test is surprisingly accurate. Not that I doubted its accuracy but that I resist the results...
Much of the time you are preoccupied with things of an intensely exciting nature. You need stimulation and variation with all matters pertaining to your life... You want to be regarded as an exciting and interesting personality being able to charm and influence others. You use powerful strategies with predictable outcomes so as to avoid endangering your chances of success or undermining other peoples confidence in you.

Most people are conditioned by their environment and you are no exception .. You are an extremely emotional person - so much so that "the wrong word" can lead you to tears . You feel other peoples pain. You feel the need of sympathetic relationships and a pleasant work environment in order to develop and grow. You are an impulsive, loving individual with a great deal of inherent feeling.

Everyone has to compromise at times.. and circumstances are such, that at this time you are feeling the need to do just that. Put all of your hopes on the back burner and let matters flow...for a time...forgo some of the things you want. The good times are around the corner.

You are holding back. You need to find friends in whom you can trust and once they have proved themselves beyond all possible doubt you will be prepared to give them your all ... The existing situation is not of your liking. You have an unsatisfied need for mental stimulation with others whose standards are as high as your own. Trying to control your instincts the way you do restricts your ability to open up to others ... and the way you feel at this time is suggestive of "total surrender". This is not to your liking as you consider such thoughts as weaknesses that need to be overcome; You feel that only by control, controlling your innermost thoughts, are you able, can you maintain your air of superiority. You want to be admired for yourself alone and not for what you can do or for what you may have done. In essence "you need to be needed" ... and at the same time... .."you need to need".

You really like doing what you do and more than that, you like yourself. Your attitude to work and to life is that "If its not fun - then don't do it" You want to be liked and respected, not for who you are but , for what you are.. and it seems to be working..

Took a tram for the second time since I've been in Hong Kong. I know...cheap thrill. But the tram is a very integral part of the Hong Kong city landscape as much as the neon lights are. So now I can say "been there, done that" to tram rides, too.

Talking about the portobello mushroom steak just gave me a craving so guess what I had for dinner? : ) In the words of a good friend in the UK.... scrummy!

Brought down my little Christmas tree tonight. considered keeping it up and trimming it with "ang pows" but I don't think I can find ang pows small enough for my foot high cherry tree. Feeling a bit sentimental about bringing it down. The tree was the first familiar sight which brought a smile to my face as I walked into my room on my New Year's day return to Hong Kong. Keep on moving...

American Music Awards on now. Who is Alicia Keys? 6 nominations and 2 wins out of 3 categories so far. I must be getting old to be so out of touch with the music scene. *ouch*... reality bites! The start of a new year always makes me more conscious of the years passing. How did I get to 32? What have I accomplished in the 32 years I've been given on this earth? And now, 33 is round the corner. Someone asked me in an email what am I going to create in 2002. I was stumped. I suddenly realised I'm completely clueless. Scary. I ended up listing some of the things I wanted and was going to do this year. But I guess at the bottom of it all is to create peace, love and passion in my relationship with family, friends, work and that one special relationship in my life.

I ran into my coach from the AsiaWorks Basic training yesterday after lunch. She didn't seem interested in any conversation or chit chat. She politely smiled and nodded as I enthusiastically greeted her and attempted to introduce myself to her as a past "student". She made no attempts to hide the fact that she was more interested in catching the elavator than my joy at the chance meeting. I don't know what I was expecting. I guess I imagined her to be a friendly person outside the training room. One who genuinely took interest in the people whose lives she's touched in such a powerful way, if only briefly. But alas, I suppose I am but one face of several thousands she would have met in the past year.

After a long hiatus, I started cooking again last night. Thanks to the slow cooker which my sis (Angie) gave me, I have been making soup and curry with great ease. Drop all the ingredients that were cut up the night before into the pot next morning, add water then plug in the power and voila! I have yummy chinese herbal soup at night. Fried some sole fillet and brocolli, cooked rice and had a hearty, healthy meal. Not as healthy as a meal I made last week though. Portobello mushroom steak and salad!

Just got back from the bank. Three of us at the office have just signed up for an HSBC Gold Master card just to enjoy the promotion offer of a free DVD player :) Karthik, a colleague who was living in Singapore for 8 years before he moved to Hong Kong, informed the others of the promotion and like kiasu Singaporeans, we fell for the marketing gimick. Anyway, I could use a DVD player on lonely quiet nights. I don't remember credit card promotions in singapore to be so attractive. They even waive the first year annual subscription! Very kiasu. must retain my culture (teeheehee!)

seems blogging is the way to go these days...
so, i'm going to try to integrate my blog into my existing web page. haven't really worked out how yet so be kind.
3 days since I've been back in Hong Kong now. I had a really good time catching up with family and friends even if it proved to be rather hectic towards the end. To those of you that I didn't end up meeting afterall, well, let's try again next time I'm back...in Feb.
Since my last update, I had Etienne come visit me in Hong Kong on the weekend of Dec 14-17. Had a great time even if I completely screwed up our trip to Macau because I forgot that we needed our passports! Well, thanks to Etienne's visit, I visited the giant buddha on Lantau Island, and took in the spectacular view of Hong Kong island from Victoria Peak.
Serina joined us on Saturday of that weekend and took us to a Christmas concert at her church located on the 75th floor of I forget the name of the building....a great start to the Christmas celebrations!
Got back to Singapore late night on 19 December and waited for my meet and greet party that ended up arriving later than me! Well, my flight was ten minutes early, afterall.
Highlight of my trip home was the dinner party at my new apartment. The completely empty apartment was made somewhat homely with a bunch of floor cushions, rug, table lamp, lanterns and tealights from IKEA. Was a cosy party made up of some LP12 friends and their partner. Nice.
