island getaway
Two weeks ago, I decided to take a vacation in Indonesia to visit my good friend, Tara, who has stopped for a couple of months in Jakarta on a contract with a mining company. I arrived in the capital city on Thursday night and early the next morning, we headed out for Thousand Island, also known as Pulau Kotok Besar. There, Tara and a couple of her friends went diving while I snorkelled around the shallow reefs for the next couple of days. It was a beautiful island resort -- rustic and a bit run-down but the surrounding clear waters gave it an idyllic setting which made up even for the army of mosquitos on the island.
Unfortunately, I underestimated the fury of the tropical sun and got quite sunburnt. Ah well, it will settle into an enviable tan soon.

last day at the office
I walked out of there quietly amidst the bustle of the team getting ready for a business unit meeting with the visiting Asia Pacific MD. Mostly, people were anxious about what announcement he would bring this time, being the bearer of bad tidings that he's become. I politely extended a hand of courtesy to him as I took my leave while he pretended not to realise it was my final leave-taking. I did, afterall, send an email to a few people, including himself, yesterday to that effect. Ah well, no love lost there.
Received some lovely wishes from co-workers near and far. I'm sad to leave but far greater prospects await me. I am sure of it. Until then...

spring blossom
Feels like summer already. I've had visitors every other week since the Chinese New Year holidays. Challenging as I've been laid off! Finishing my last week at the office. Been a stresful couple of months. Had a birthday last week but kept rather low-key. Photographed this rose bush outside Cheung Kong Centre two weeks ago while walking around the city with my brother and his family.
