suffocating
I'm dying from the heat. Today's weather symbol on the HK Observatory website was a thick, red, upward-pointing arrow with steam curling up and two words emblazoned across the image which read "very hot", and a chinese equivalent above that. The trudge back from salsa class was the most difficult I've experienced since moving to Central. I could barely breathe the dense air, my pants were uncomfortably plastered to my thighs and hot air was trapped between my huge purse and chest. Yucky mucky.

Mom arrives tomorrow for nearly a week. Hopefully, she doesn't fade in this weather, which is probably a couple of degrees hotter than Singapore. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the weather will cool after Thursday, as predicted by the HKO.

"too darn hot"
My thigh muscles were killing me for days following the dance chorus rehearsals. I'm doing stuff my muscles were never trained to do...pirouette, plies, and other unpronounceable positions. argh! Am finally able to walk again though. It's been only a week!

Singapore was great. Very brief but the picnic and bbq day was a success despite clouds threatening to rain down on us. As usual, the weather held...for me! M was a hit with the kids. Played like one of the kids! Only, he had the advantage of height, weight and speed.

On the way to Singapore, lunched at Wildfire at the airport and was amused to be served with plastic knife and metal fork. Friend I was lunching with noted that it was a security measure as we were already in the secure area of the airport. Made sense. Got on the plane and was served a meal soon after. Ate with metal cutlery. Plane ironic!

On arriving back in Hong Kong, heard this very insightful announcement on the plane,

"Despite leaving ahead of schedule from Changi International airport, we have arrived in Hong Kong ten minutes behind our scheduled arrival time. This is because of a longer than expected flight time."

sizzling singapore
I'm off to sunny Singapore this afternoon for a picnic and bbq weekend. I hope that'll give me more material to write about.

My niece isn't pleased that M will be coming to Singapore with me. Jealous little girl thinks he'll take precious time with me from her. We'll need to handle that situation delicately. Thankfully, M loves kids so I'm hoping the weekend will be without any serious incident.

"KMK" rehearsals are getting quite fun. The music is great and as a dance chorus, I'll be learning jazz ballet. Totally cool! Last night, we tried some movements that looked really great but I think I must have looked like a clumsy hippo. My thigh muscles were cramping from pliers and leg lifts. *ouch*...but very stylo mylo lah.

Haven't been to Salsa much lately so the waistline is expanding. How disgusting to look far-from-perfect for Summer! M is learning to Salsa but it is tough-going for him. Not quite co-ordinated. But he's trying. Kudos for the boy. Consequently, I've been skipping Salsa parties so he doesn't have to pay the cover charge just to watch me and other people dance while he sits or stands in a corner, trying hard not to feel bored because Salsa is my passion.

Which is what happened on Wednesday at the Azucar Latina CD launch. He didn't pay a cover charge this time but stood and watched while I hungrily danced 5 dances to satiate my appetite.

Must get ready for work now. Early start (I hope) so I can leave early to catch my flight. More from Singapore...

i'm in!
Auditioned for two shows about a week or so ago - one I didn't really care for but auditioned just for practice and the other, a much bigger show, I really wanted to do. "Kiss Me, Kate" calls for a dance chorus with some really funky jazz choreography and I'm in it! Woohoo! I can't believe I made it since most of the girls in the callback last night were really young and have had either ballet or modern jazz training in the recent past. It's possible I got a spot because of my friendship with the choreographer but I prefer to think it's because she really believes I'd be great in the chorus line. Busy weeks ahead up to late November as I'm also in the singing chorus, which means more rehearsals than anyone else. Well, at least I'll be back in shape! Phew!
