tearful parting
We ignored the impending parting for as long as we could and never once broached the subject during lunch. But as we made our way to the Airport Express, I told her about the email I wrote MM expressing my melancholy and recounting our conversation of last night. From the corner of my eye, I saw her falter ever so slightly. I looked up to find her tearful eyes regarding me. We stopped in the middle of the busy sidewalk by The Landmark and hugged briefly, oblivious to the passing traffic, lost in our friendship. We resumed our tearful trudge laughing at our silly tears at which point Tara reminded me that she would return to Hong Kong before November due to the nature of her 'round-the-world' ticket. That picked my mood up immediately. At the Airport Express gate, we hugged once more, in tears again. By this time, Tara's eyes were swollen red. Several "I'll miss you's" later and she was on the train as I walked back to the office fighting off stubborn tears, yet hopeful now for our next meeting.
